October 25, 1930 – January 25, 2024
It is with sadness that we share the news of Jim’s passing while in Lions Gate Hospital. Jim was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. After graduation from Central Collegiate High School he was employed by the CPR, firing steam engines prior to the transition to diesel power. Moving to Regina, he worked in sales for Rothmans being promoted in 1960 to a position in Vancouver. He obtained his CGA degree from UBC, leading to a career with Revenue Canada until his retirement in 1995.
Jim was a younger member of a large family. He was predeceased by five sisters, Margaret, Marion, Laura, Jean, and Fay, and by his three brothers, Lawrence, George, and Walter. Two sisters, Kay (Randy) and Pat, as well as many nieces and nephews survive.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Margaret, his son Ian, daughter-in-law Marybelle and his two grandsons, Reid, and Bryce.
As newlyweds Jim and Margaret lived in Kitsilano, moving to North Vancouver in 1962. Over the decades they enjoyed the companionship of wonderful friends and neighbours. Jim had a sharp wit, he loved a salty joke-or being the prankster. He was generous, always offering a ride, or picking up the tab. He, like so many followed the peaks and valleys of the Vancouver Canucks starting with his attendance at their initial game in 1970. He was involved in minor hockey in the 1970’s, firstly at the Capilano Winter Club, and later with the North Shore Winter Club.
A gathering to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
