Jean Helen Lister (nee Smith), 94 died peacefully of old age at Lion’s Gate Hospital surrounded by her five daughters on September 24, 2017. Jean was born in Crestwynd, Saskatchewan on July 10, 1923. She grew up on the family farm with six brothers and sisters and moved to Calgary and then as a young woman to Vancouver where she met husband Merlin. They were one of the first families to move to Norgate Park in North Vancouver. Later, Jean and Merlin managed the Arts Club on Seymour Street and organized legendary opening night dinners for theatre productions at the upstairs Arts Club Theatre. In retirement they spent many happy years vacationing in California.
Predeceased by identical twin sister Dorothy Landers, husband Merlin, sister Margie, brothers Stuart, Bryan and Neil. Survived by last remaining sibling Hayden Smith (Calgary) and daughters Gay Walker (Ken Wotzke), Sheridan Lister, Alison Hendren (Neil), Merle Lister, Jeannie Lister (Cam McOuat) and seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean will be fondly remembered for her sweetness, humour and love of music. As per Jean’s request a family memorial will be held at a later date.
