With sadness we announce the passing of Jenifer Rosalind Wilkinson Hext in North Vancouver on August 16th, 2023…’Jen’ to all who knew her, will be greatly missed by her children – Christopher (Dale), David (Gail) and Alison - her grandchildren – Bradley, Daniel and Andrew - her great grandson - Arlo - her cherished nieces, nephews and their families - her neighbours and hundreds of friends here in Vancouver and Worldwide…Jen was born in Chelsea, England on May 16, 1928 and emigrated to Canada in 1950 with her beloved Ken in search of greater opportunities - after their long journey across the ocean on the Empress of Canada they established their home in North Vancouver where they stayed for close to 75 years…Jen left us at the age of 95 after having lived a life of dedication to all she knew and loved - her family and friends were the lucky recipients of her positive attitude - her strength and wisdom when any of us needed her - and her sense of calm in stormy times …Jen taught us by example how to be courageous - as she fought against the four strokes that were determined to stop her…that wasn’t Jen - and she never gave up trying as she surmounted every obstacle life threw in her path…she had been without Ken since 2006 - yet she rarely complained and didn’t let her sorrow reflect on those around her…even in her last year - spent at the Lynn Valley Care Centre - Jen always had a ready smile for her visitors…Jen was an avid gardener - and an extraordinary steward to her dog Archie…she walked him at least three times each day up and down the Mosquito Creek Trail regardless of the weather…she’d don her sunglasses in the summer - her umbrella in the fall - and her snow cleats in the winter…never letting her pup go without his exercise…they became the pair - Archie always keeping an eye out for Jen and vice versa…Jen kept herself remarkably fit throughout the years - swimming - tennis - and health and beauty being just a few of her pursuits…Jen was an avid reader, classical music enthusiast and taught herself to speak French …she held luncheons and dinners that would rival those of any chef…lastly - yet far from least - Jen was devoted to her church….as we say goodbye to Jen we know that it’s the end of an era …her standards - seldom met by others - have gone with her generation…
Fly old friend - now back in the loving arms of Ken…we’ll see you in the stars at night…in a beautiful rose…in the smile of a little one…even as you watch over us - we will all truly miss you…
Your Family…
