It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of our Father, Husband & Opa. Joe passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side at North Shore Hospice.
Josef (Joe) was born on October 16, 1937 in Meedl Germany. He came to Canada with three good friends and fell in love with the great outdoors. While travelling across Canada it was when he set his eyes on the Rockies he felt B.C. was home. He sent for his wife Alwine and son Tilo to be by his side and create a home first in Vancouver and then North Vancouver
Joe apprenticed in Germany as a Pastry Chef. He met his beautiful wife, Alwine while working at the Alpen Rose Resort. Our father was a gifted cook. He developed his culinary skills and became a chef. In his early years here in B.C. he worked for a logging camp in Kitimat. Stories were often shared of this cherished time in the rugged back country feeding the hungry workers. He would fish on his off hours and embellish the many meals with fresh seafood. It gave him great pleasure to see people enjoying his meals. The majority of his working career was with Capilano Golf and Country Club and Capilano College where he retired. During his time off he also cooked for a Lodge up north on Muncho Lake where he enjoyed several hunting excursions.
Joe was a long time member of the North Shore Fish & Game Club. He volunteered his craft for the many barbeques and banquets and made many good life long friends. His passion for the outdoors lead him to the pursuit of fish and game throughout the Province of B.C. and the Yukon. He was a wealth of knowledge for those who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Joe leaves behind his wife, Alwine of 66 years, his son Tilo and wife Donna. Grandchildren Erica & husband Ryan, Curtis and wife Tiana. Great grandchildren Maxen and Levi.
