Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband Jim in 2016, her brother Arne, and her parents Eileen and Arne. Joyce is survived by daughter Karen (Richard), sons Chris (Laurel) and Monty (Lori), grandchildren Kevin and Jennifer, sisters Maria and Marguerite, brother Wallace, sister in law Marlene Trussell, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Edmonton, Joyce moved with her family to Vancouver as a child, eventually graduating from King Edward High School. Joyce met the love of her life in James Peters while working at the downtown Woodwards store. They were married in 1956 and within a few years had settled in North Delta to raise their family. There Joyce became involved in the community joining the ratepayers association which worked tirelessly to bring the first Community Center/Ice Arena to North Delta. Joyce continued to give back to her community later in life by knitting numerous afghan blankets for the local hospital auxiliary and volunteering her counselling skills for the planned parenthood organization. During this time Joyce also enjoyed long careers with Woodwards and eventually retiring from Telus while earning respect for her work ethic and contributions to those organizations.
We always knew our mom to be the “Glue” that kept both our family as well as her birth family together by hosting numerous family gatherings at their principle and vacation homes over the decades. For most of our years with Mom we always knew her to be ever approachable, empathetic, Intelligent and open-minded along with having a generous spirit and genuine love for her family, and all of those that she was close to. Even after losing Jim and being challenged with the advancing effects of dementia, Mom maintained a keen long term memory and was able to tell stories of her early and recent family life to the joy of those of us who were present.
The family also wishes to thank her long time caregiver Denise, and also the staff at Delta View Campus of Care for their caring, sympathetic, and respectful treatment of Mom in her final years.”
We will always hold in our hearts, the memories of the wonderful attributes that our mother had and the person that we were blessed to have had as our Mom.
May she be at peace now and be once again together with Dad.
