Kenneth J Reid, 86, passed away peacefully on Dec 6, 2023.
Ken was born in Vancouver and lived in North Vancouver almost all of his life. He worked for the North Vancouver Waterboard, then became a head planer man at Nova Lumber and eventually purchased a boat and became a crab and prawn fisherman. He had an aluminum boat custom built named the Tsunami. He mainly worked the boat single handedly which required a lot of physical strength since the traps weighed 100lb each. Ken was a bit of a character and had a great sense of humour.
He had many stories about the shenanigans of fishing in Burrard Inlet and competing with other fishermen and outsmarting Max, who worked for the Fisheries Department. He and Sonny Landry had an ongoing feud about who’s fishing area was whose, but once a year they would go out and get drunk together.
Ken was a fitness enthusiast participating in aerobics classes for many years. He became a runner and was very proud of completing the Vancouver Marathon. He was also a very fast sprinter despite his heavy build.
Ken and Judy had a small home in Mesa, AZ for few years. He had some great times there and made some good friends. After wintering in Arizona for a few years Ken wanted to move to the driest part of the lower mainland, south Surrey/White Rock.
The family would like to extend our thanks to the exceptional staff at Morgan Place who provided the best of care for Ken.
Ken was stubborn, tough, protective and loving. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family (niece Judy and cousin Dorothy Ann) and especially his loving wife, Judy.
