September 5, 1930 - January 7, 2020
Marilyn was many things in life; companion, reader, traveller, artist, creator, change-maker, cook, mother of four and wife to Robert (Bob). Born in Winnipeg to Eva and Ralph Gould, she was studious and quiet but also athletic and preferred outdoors and team sports to dances and dresses. Mom was a lover of her Bassets and very tolerant of their stubborn ways. A lifelong ceramic artist, she and fellow potter, Margaret Scott, were instrumental in shaping the design of the Parkgate Community Centre’s Pottery Studio. A paperback and a cup of coffee left beside a comfortable chair was a given sight in her home. The radio was a constant as well, and she’s passed on her CBC habit to at least some of the family. Mom was happy when she had a project, especially when the task required power tools and a trip to the lumber yard or Lee Valley Hardware. Marilyn and Bob had the opportunity to travel and visit the world’s wine making regions through Dad’s position as the General Manager of the provincial liquor board, the BCLDB. Marilyn loved to cook and was used to feeding a crowd, whether it was family or friends. Always a lively conversation at the table, sometimes debate, but never dumbing down or dressing up!
Marilyn cared about the community around her, working in the non-profit sector in local community outreach programs, as well as in a community support role for the RCMP in North Vancouver in the early ’80’s.
Marilyn is survived by daughters Laura (Wayne), Leslie (Rick) and son Kent (Perry) and brother Barry Gould (Donna). Fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Tom, John, Charlotte, Rebecca, Connor, Rob, Katy, and Sarah. She is pre-deceased by husband Robert Wallace and youngest daughter Margaret Wallace.
Donations in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimers Society in Marilyn’s memory.
