Nancy passed away quietly on the evening of Feb 17, after a long struggle with dementia. During the last two years of her life, Mom was bedridden, and pretty much non-communicative. Her passing was both heartache, and relief.
She did not always know who we were, but did recognize that she knew us. If I could get her to laugh, I considered that a blessing. Our visits ranged from lovely to frustrating and back.
We all appreciate your love and condolences and know that our friends are here for us. But Mom did have a long and varied life. She raised three incredible children (if I do say so myself!) who in turn have raised their own incredible children.
She held 3 separate careers (1 paid; 2 not) – Radar Tech in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Guider and Trainer with the Girl Guides of Canada (40 years), and Volunteer with the Brookswood Community Police Office (25 years).
She is missed indeed, but the memories we have are warm, funny, and full of love. Thank you all for your messages – we feel them!
Her memorial will be held on Sunday, March 29 from 1 – 4 pm at the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam – 2080 United Blvd in the upper lobby of the Show Theatre. This might not seem appropriate, but then, Mom did not always follow convention.
