Nena Anne Hansen

Nena was born in Vancouver to Mary Veronica (nee Williamson) and Ernest Leslie McLellan and lived in the Vancouver area all her life. Nena was the middle child and longest lived of 5 siblings (Vera, Sonny, Mona, and Bert). Nena was very active over the course of her life. In her 20s and 30s, she could be found hiking and skiing the local mountains at a time when accessing the north shore was by ferry only. In her 30s, she was racing and sailing boats out of Kitsilano Yacht Club where she met her husband, Karl. Over the next 20 years, Nena took on the challenge of trying to properly raise her four children in the sleepy community of Deep Cove.

At age 65, after a long career in many administrative roles, and her children launched, Nena and Karl embarked on an extended period together as pensioner-adventurers, resuming their pursuit of their outdoor passions. As long time members of the Deep Cove Yacht Club, they cruised their 24 foot sailboat, Hobro, to many places along the BC coast. They skied, hiked and cycled to experience many of the beautiful feature and attractions of BC, all with many long time and new friends. After a long and active life, not quite 100 years, Nena still had “all her marbles” but was often surprised that that her body was not quite able to keep up.

Nena is pre-deceased by her husband, and partner in adventure, Karl. Nena is survived by her four children Andrew (Liane), Charles (Cynthia), Veronica, Paul (Nancy) and her nine grandchildren, Amber, Kylie, Cara, Chantalle, Alydar, Chela, Will, Ethan and Claire.

Nena’s adventurous lifestyle lead her to be a frequent visitor at the Lions Gate Hospital where she was treated and repaired very well. If you so desire, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1300 Wednesday November 27th, at St Pius X Catholic Church 1150 Mount Seymour Road, North Vancouver, followed by a reception at the Deep Cove Yacht Club at 2:00pm.
