Russell Gordon Fraser

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Russell Gordon Fraser, May 23, 2024. Russ was making jokes until the very end, and will be fondly remembered for his ability to make those he was with feel loved and appreciated.

He is predeceased by longtime partner and wife, Jone Fraser and brother Peter Fraser. He was a doting grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, brother and father, and best friend to his cousin. Russ played a significant role in the lives of his nieces and sister. His relationship with his two grandsons brought him immense joy. Russ was also solid presence in the lives of his step-family.

Russ graduated from UBC engineering and stayed connected to the profession and his engineering colleagues throughout his life. These enduring friendships were a source of strength in the past few years. Russ began to exercise his political passion in university and as an engineer, sitting on various boards and committees, too many to list. From the Vancouver Parks Board to his seat as MLA for Vancouver South, his tenure as Minister of Post-Secondary Education, and as Solicitor and Attorney General for B.C., Russ enjoyed public life and was keen to serve. Everybody has shaken hands with him at one point or another.

Russ was also a car fanatic and always had a great story to tell about an adventure from his youth that involved a car or a road trip, and an unlikely getaway. If it wasn't a car, it was a boat.

There will be a celebration of life, but in the meantime, please get together with a friend and share a story, as he would do.
