Nana, Granny Rufus, Lille Mor, passed away peacefully at home on August 13th, 2022 at the age of 97. Her unwavering unconditional love for her four children was obvious to everyone who knew her. She is survived by her beloved daughter Bente, sons Peter & Lennie (Erin), and daughter Debbie (Rick). A longtime resident of West Vancouver (the first tenant at her home of 30 years in Kiwanis), she was born in Fredericia Denmark to Einer and Anna Jorgensen on August 24, 1924. Her strong ties to her grandchildren Jessie, Amani, Brie and Brolin brought her the utmost joy. She was blessed to have a great grandchild Tyson. Kind thoughts always to cousin Preben (Jette), Jacob, Nina and Linda of Denmark. Although the family is spread out, know in your hearts she profoundly loved each and every one of you, and was grateful to have you in her life.
When asked what Ruth liked to do most she proudly exclaimed “giving dinner parties”… and at that she was a master. Whether it be a candlelit dinner for four or twelve, or more she put all her soul into her cooking and gave a warm Danish welcome to all. Danish ‘Hygge’, the unspoken art of coziness, and creating traditions was her legacy. Always a lady of class, dignity and caring, she loved those who loved her with all her heart. Devoted to her children and bringing them up with love and understanding was her life’s journey. Ruth enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and loved the theatre and arts and loved to sew; she sewed all her own stylish clothes, and the sound of the sewing machine resonating throughout the house created a peaceful ‘vibe’ for her children.
For many years she worked in sales and management at Hudson’s Bay and then continued on to Bowrings at Park Royal and Oakridge; a position that honed her already great skill at creating beautiful decor and style in her home, a position she was proud to be part of.
Ruth was predeceased by her sister Tove in 2016, whom she loved dearly and particularly enjoyed their quiet evenings of duck dinners together. Her love goes out to Tove’s three boys Kenny (Myra), Michael (Terry), and Philip (Bonnie) and their families. Ruth always said what fine good men you are. She always told the truth.
Ruth’s courage and strength of Spirit in dealing with her challenges was amazing. She was unique and exceptional not only as a mother but as a human being. She will be greatly missed, but now is in another Hygge place, having dinner parties for the angels.
The entire family wishes to recognize and sincerely thank Dr. Grunow and Wendy for their ongoing care and support. Additionally the staff at Lions Gate Hospital for their profound care and guidance during this time. And an extremely special thankyou to all the Caregivers and Home Support ladies that gave her such tremendous support, kindness and caring over the years; she always felt good knowing that there was not a day that went by without a smile and a kind hand.
It was Ruth’s request not to have a service but rather that everyone stay safe and take a walk in the sunshine and relish in the beauty of nature.
Not too long before she passed Ruth said she would have liked to have been named ‘Jackie’… her son-in-law Rick made it so and always called her that with a little spring in his voice.. and a smile was felt and laughter ensued. Goodnight Jackie.
You are always in our Hearts
Sov Godt Lille Mor
