Oct 10, 2016 - when I was having a Thanksgiving potluck and all my friends took turns poking fun at me for having a few nearly identical leather jackets, and everyone posed for a photo. 

Out of everyone there, Siobhan was the most serenely delighted.  For her, the photo was less about poking fun at me, and instead made me feel like she was celebrating me for being... me.  

I still celebrate you Siobhan,  for being you. Thank you for being a friend.

Its been 2 years since she left. And over 30 since we met…
Seems only fitting that I came across our grade 6 graduation T-Shirt this week when she popped into my mind. Reminding me of how we met and truly connected at a young age. We had amazing talks on our way to/from school right through high school. It was a deep friendship that lasted for decades.    

I remember signing the paper that was transferred onto this commemorative t-shirt in 1996, we were sure to have our names right next to each other. 

You are missed my dear friend. I hope you have finally found the freedom you were always searching for…

We met in 2006 when I moved to Edmonton.  I was in a very dark place, having to restart my entire existence for the second time.  She served me coffee and said: "You are the most miserable person I have ever met!".  I responded; "Try me on my day off."  The following Sunday we went for breakfast.  After we decided to take a stroll.  We walked and talked.  27 hrs later we went our separate ways. Bonded for life.  Although I was much older, she guided me to reinvent myself, to become a better human.  She introduced me to so many people that I still have as friends.  In turn I made it my life's-mission to support, encourage, and protect her as she created her own life.  We remained in contact virtually every day, including her last.  I have lost one other person like her, back in that 80's plague.  I built a home for her in my soul.  Now she has a roommate in you.  I will honour what you did for me until my own last breath.  Now, I am going to scream into the wind again.  xo   Daryl (Doc)

I can’t accept that the world is allowed to go on without you Siobhan. There is literally no memory or experience I shared with you that didn’t find you laughing - and getting me to join you in The Joy.  Your giggles were as free and giving as the air we breathe. You were so thoroughly YOU, so special, going with the flow, finding wonder in little moments, completely accepting, and willing to stand up for others.

You always made me feel welcomed, proud, and somehow bolder just to be me.  I wished we could have had so much more time together.  Just the other day I found a "rubbed basil" spice in a dollar store, and all I could think was if you were there you would start by rubbing my arms playfully (because I am Basil), like the world itself is a part of our inside joke, there to assist in our punchlines. 

My chest hurts - actually physically hurts - at the loss of you. And it hurts the most to realize that you were hurting underneath that laughter, my friend hurting and I didn’t know and couldn’t help. 

I planted a tree yesterday in memory of you Siobhan. It is a black hawthorn, a native that belongs in this land. It came originally from another place and was for many years contained in a little pot, but it needed somewhere bigger to grow and stretch its roots. So I planted the hawthorn beside a rose bush to be its friend, under the partial shade and protection of the old walnut tree. 

The hawthorn has friends and something to look towards in every direction: the River with its giggles to its north, the Mountains to the west, the Forest and walnut to the south, a Home looking out for it to the east, where the Sun Rises. And below the black hawthorn, black earth. And above, Blue Skies for Dreamers. 

After planting the tree, the sky here turned to pink and gold. It’s everything I ever wished for you my friend. I wish I could have helped you find a home inside and around you like this.  I love you.

The world has again shifted , jumped the rails,
 never to be the same again. 
I remember you squinting in the sunlight, a 7 year old waiting for the 
photo to be taken, on a mountain near Banff.
Years later you showed us around Vancouver, the steam clock and the place where you worked 
and the best places to be.
I took you and your mum to T in the park, I wish I had stayed with you both then.
I wish I spoke  to you more at new year.

My sincere condolences to you Jo, Jay and Fiona. Siobhan was a gentle, intuitive, caring, kind and thoughtful person and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her. My fondest memories of Siobhan are from 6 years ago when you both came to visit Scotland. She fell in love first with Edinburgh, then Glasgow and at first was pretty reluctant to visit St Andrew's but ended up loving it too.  I remember her standing in the middle of the ruined cathedral soaking up the atmosphere! She made us great cocktails too, she was good at that! Rest peacefully Siobhan.

I'm still looking for words. The memories of you, and me, in some long forgotten east van hut, excitedly finishing each other's sentences. Of texting as soon as it was coffee break. Of going to sea, but leaving a stake through you, through that. I can still feel the fluorescents. Then taking lumps and mending fence. Years went as we tore at each other, and ourselves. How is it love and friendship stayed? Because you are that good.

Siobhan was my first and best friend in Vancouver. We were thick as thieves and even flatmates at one point. The amount of laughs, tears and drinks we had cant even be counted.  We haven't spoken in sometime, but it's hard to imagine a world without her in it.

When I think of Siobhan I think of a unique, beautiful, authentic soul. There certainly aren’t many people like her. I’m sorry to hear of her passing here on earth but believe her soul continues to live on. Wishing you love and Gods peace. Andrea

I met Siobhan in junior high. We were both awkward, alternative girls who wore glasses. We would exchange glimpses across the halls between classes, we were both shy so we never spoke. Eventually we were introduced by a mutual friend and Siobhan commented that I “wore my glasses with style”. She then threw back her head and giggled. (You know the one). Immediately I was in love with her. 
In high school we dated boys who were friends. That solidified our bond. She would pick me up in her little jelly bean car, we would listen to The Doors, shop at Value Village for hours, go on road trips, eat candy, and there was always so much giggling.
We stayed friends as adults, even after she moved to Vancouver. We always had so much fun together. Trips to the aquarium, shopping for vintage clothes, eating yummy food. The last time I visited I got to meet Lyle and Chino. She was so happy. We drank blueberry beer and she told me about how on the weekend she drank too much at a work function and embarrassed herself. We threw our heads back and fell down laughing because that was such a Siobhan thing to do. We stayed in touch over text, talking about what books we were reading, exchanging photos of our pets and messages of love. 
It’s hard to articulate this pain. There’s so much more to write. I’m struggling to comprehend that I’ll never hear your giggle again. Scour the racks of a second hand store with you. Hug and kiss you while jumping and giggling. Promising that the next visit will be sooner.

We can't imagine the sadness and heartbreak you must be experiencing and wish that we were near by to wrap you in a hug. I am so saddened to hear of Siobhan's passing. I met Siobhan in high school and she was always the life of the party, always laughing and up for an adventure.  A few keys memories: dancing to video killed the radio star on my 18th bday,  spending HOURS dreading my hair and then 3 weeks later helping me comb it out because I changed my mind, those hilarious peepee teepees you gave me as a baby gift, dancing in my parents basement. Actually a lot of memories of us dancing and laughing. Siobhan was truly a unique soul who I'm sure left an impression on anyone who was lucky enough to meet her. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends, may the memories you have of Siobhan comfort you through your grief.

You were seven. Paul and I chased you around the garden in Auckland with worms. I loved your hugs before you went to bed. You and Fiona travelled 12hours on a bus from Toronto to see us in NY. You have no idea how much that meant to me. You are gone now and we miss you. A big hole has opened up in our hearts and will never be filled. I wish you could have felt how loved you are by us all. Siobhan was a ray of light - quick witted, funny, smart and kind.  I had the pleasure of being able to work with her at CapU and am deeply saddened by her passing.

Geez, this was sad to hear. Siobhan and I were highschool sweethearts. I always considered myself lucky to have been with her and when I look back I truly realize  just how lucky I was. She was a pleasure to be around! Great sense of humour. We watched Austin Powers constantly. Listened to oldies. She would talk about how much she wanted to get dreadlocks. And what do you know, she got that done! I always thought she was a cool person, I’ll never forget going to Kelowna to visit her mom. There was an awesome perogy place nearby and her mom would curse the drivers for “not using their indicators” a term I still use to this day. We hadn’t spoke for years, but I still think about her and remember our time together fondly. You were a beautiful person Siobhan, my heart breaks for your mom and those close to you. Rest In Peace. 

I am very sad to hear that Siobhan has passed away and offer my condolences to her family and loved ones.

I met Siobhan in high school and she was a close friend during adolescence and early adulthood. I have many fond memories with her that I will always cherish.

I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear news of your passing.  My favourite and closest friend for years, nobody can scratch the surface to our numerous shred escapades, hijinks and shenanigans.  I think of you often, always with a smirk or smile on my face, recounting with fondness one of our many memories.  Your sense of humour and ability to find the comedic error in all of life's opportunities left a mark on all who met you.  The way you would throw your head back and give way to laughter is how I remember you best, the world is dimmer with you now gone.  To your kindreds and remaining family members, my sincere condolences on your loss.  Knowing Siobhan was a blessing and I loved her with my whole heart, she will be fiercely and forever remembered by me.

So sad to hear Sio has left this world.  Growing up together was filled with many memories.  I have fond thoughts of her often.  So sorry for the grief and loss your closest friends and family must  be feeling at this time.  

I have many memories over the years especially when we were kids  We became friends in grade 6 and we were best of friends in grade 7. You lived down the road from me and we were always together. Our friendship was true no matter the distance and length of time between us, whenever we reconnected it was like nothing had changed. I am truly sad and heartbroken over this. I will always love and miss you. My condolences to your mom and family!
