
M.D., F.R.C.P. (C)-On Monday, January 31, 2005, in her 90th year, Alice died peacefully at Sunnybrook and Women's College after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late William Barrisdale (Barry) Gray. Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Dr. Laurel Gray of Vancouver; Meg Gray of Toronto; and Dr. Dale Gray, her husband Jim Hamilton and their daughters Jessica and Emily Hamilton of Toronto; and by her very dear cousin, Ken Williams, also of Toronto. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, she began her career at the Banting Institute. She joined Women's College Hospital and served there as Director of Laboratorius from 1952 until her retirement in 1980. She was an enthusiastic and caring teacher, and a professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, eventually receiving the title of 'Professor Emeritus'. Friends may call at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Thursday, February 3, 2005 from 7 to 9 pm. A service to celebrate Alice's life will be held at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home Chapel at 1 pm on Friday, February 4, 2005. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dorothy Macham Home at Sunnybrook Centre, a facility named after her dear colleague and friend.
