My neighbor of 17 years and friend of 25 years, even though we moved far away we still kept in touch. We spoke across the miles. You would always end our conversation with "God bless, God bless". You were one of the sweetest person I have ever met. Rest in peace Maria. God bless..... Silbert and Maisielyn

Mary and Peter welcomed me into this very large Italian family and she made me feel like a part of her family the day we met. We will always remember Mary at our wedding watching her two children dance while Peter graciously took our photos. She remained close to my mother in law and Mary will be remembered as the most kind, beautiful woman we were lucky enough to know. Muriel and Joe DiFresca

A Eulogy Written with Love for Maria Vallario Arista (our mommy, Mary, Nonna, Marion)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Mommy saw the light; the light of God shining in every moment of darkness of her life. She never complained, always accepting of what was given to her. Never used her illness at a crutch but rather as a testament to how faith, hope and will keep a person positive and moving forward to combat whatever has arrived or is yet to come. Her light never extinguished not even at her last breath surrendering herself to him.

She is a survivor, a fighter. She fought a good fight and her legacy will continue.

Mommy was a selfless woman. Always putting others before herself, speaking encouraging words people will never forget. Bringing faith where there was none and inspiration when hope was lost. Mommy will leave a lasting imprint in everyone's heart.

She is the epitome of love; embodied in her love of God, the importance of harmony and unity of family and lasting relationship with friends. But love was truly realized when she met my father. Love at first sight, their connection so great that they never left each other sides – hand in hand. Married for 36 years and companions for over 45, their love bore witness to the birth of their 2 children. To say the least she was proud of us, grateful for our love and felt blessed. Not only did she feel blessed to have her own children, but to be witness to the birth of her Gift – Caila Maria and to be given the first smile after birth, was the beginning of a relationship that would blossom into something so spectacular that it will impact Caila for the rest of her life.

Through him all things were made. For how long do we have those who are made, we do not know. But know that she took solace in knowing that she would meet us all once again. She is at peace. She was at peace with it all before she passed. She had no regrets, no unfinished business. She was loved and will continue to be loved. Her relationships with all of us will be forever with us and her bond with Javier and Laura will everlasting.

In Honour of who you are, what you meant to family, friends, students, staff and faculty, and demonstration of what you embody, York University is flying their flag half masked today for you. An honour you earned and deserved.

Mamma, tu sei la pui Bella, Brava e Buona.

We love you mommy or as Caila would say, Ti voglio bene blo blah forever.

May God bless your soul and we give thanks to God for having mercy on you.

Forever our Mommy you will be.

“I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
as long as I'm living
my baby you'll be.” (Robert Munsch – Love you forever)

Aunt Mary, I will miss you so much. You were the kind, loving, beautiful spirit who helped me become the person I am today. I will never forget the love you showed me growing up, the smile you put on my face and the lessons you taught me. It's hard to even find the right words because you will be missed more than words can express. I love you always!
