Sally Barbara Stanbury Day

June 9, 1951May 11, 2020

Sally was born on June 9th, 1951 to Margaret and Dick Stanbury in Toronto, ON. She loved the city and called Toronto home for the rest of her life. Anyone who knew Sally would describe her as the most thoughtful, selfless and caring person they had ever met; she had a special way of seeing the best in everyone. Her daughters, Jen (Jeff) and Jackie (Charlie), and her grandchildren, Tyler, Victoria, Lucas and Cooper were her life. She loved nothing more than to spend time with them at the cottage in Coboconk, or to babysit the kids so that their parents could get away. She loved her family tons and tons and made sure they knew it every day.

Sally was exceptionally creative. Family and friends often received remarkable gifts including personalized towels, blankets and quilts. Her other passion was baking. She baked cookies for everyone, her specialty was chocolate chip.

Her death came too soon and we will miss her every day. Her memory will live on with her entire family through the years of happy memories, pictures and hand made keepsakes.

Sally was predeceased by her parents, Marg and Dick Stanbury, and is survived by her daughters Jen Glass (Jeff), Jackie Shaw (Charlie), and her 4 grandchildren Tyler, Victoria, Lucas, and Cooper, her sister, Jane Baynham (Gordon Gibson), niece Kelsey Pfeiffer (Sam) and nephew David Baynham.

The family would like to thank the Palliative care team from Mount Sinai hospital for their kindness and guidance through this difficult time.

A celebration of life will be held once social distancing measures are lifted. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Sally made me comfortable no matter what we were discussing. Her kindness and acceptance always shone through. I know she was a much-loved grandmother, mother, sister and work colleague and that she will be deeply missed.

I hope that one day the happy memories she brought will be a salve for the grief of losing her.

My deepest condolences to her loved ones. I am grateful for being witness to Sally's grace.

Janie, Jennifer, Jackie and families - we share your sorrow for the loss of a terrific sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, taken from our family much too soon. We are so privileged to have the many memories of Sally's wonderful and ever-present smile, of her arms wrapped around us in loving hugs, and the contagious love she shared throughout our family, these memories will live on forever. The photograph of her taken in her father's Senate seat is perfect. Remember we will always be there for you, whatever the need.
R.I P. Sally
With Love from Uncle Mike, Aunt Kathy, Ryan, Kristen, Jordan, Kade & Jase
