NORTHPORT - Agnes Mims Emfinger, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2017 at Heritage Health and Rehab. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Gray, Pastor Tommy Smothers and grandson, Pastor Heath Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home a Dignity Provider directing the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She preceded in death by her husband George Emfinger; son, Thomas Alton “Butch” Emfinger; grandson, Brandon Emfinger; parents, Jesse and Vera Mims; and brother, Buddy Mims.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Emfinger Cooper (Wade); sister, Melbie West; grandchildren, Janell Marie Colburn (Benny), Colleen Miller; Steven W. Cooper (Melissa), Heath P. Cooper (LeAnn) and Christopher M. Cooper (Kristin); great- grandchildren, Nikki Silver (Brian), Kylie, Kaden, Kasen, and Kenley Ann Cooper, Julia R. Cooper, Benson Colburn, Gage Vasher and Cru Miller; sister-in-law, Mary Coe; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born and raised in Chilton County Alabama. She worked at Gulf States for 25 years and later retired from University of Alabama. She loved her family and friends. She always enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. No one could have loved her grandchildren any more than she did. In her last days, the mention of the grandchildren made her face light up. They could always make her smile. The Lord has blessed us with her presence for 92 years.
Pallbearers will be Steven Cooper, Heath Cooper, Chris Cooper, Benny Colburn, Kevin West and Joey Smothers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Faith Sunday School Class, members of Hopewell Baptist Church, Dr. John Summerford and staff, Judy Moore, Jean Humphreys, Jack and Jane Nicholson, David and Patti Nelson, Kent and Bridgett Sternberg, Heritage Nursing Home and Sadie Colburn.
