

NORTHPORT – Alvin Franklin Hamner, age 87, of Northport, died May 12, 2016. Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Carroll's Creek Baptist Church with Alan Roggli and Don Springer officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be today, May 14, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Bruce Hamner and Fannie Lou Shirley Hamner; wife of 44 years, Eva Mae Guy Hamner; brother, Ollie B. Hamner; sister, Mary Geneal Hamner Black; and nephew, Johnny Hewitt.
Survivors include his daughters, Magaria Hamner Bobo (Dalton), Elaine Hamner Bobo (Daryll) and Sabrina Hamner Hall (Al); sister, Glenda Hamner; grandchildren, Beth Boothe (Shawn), Joni Hudson (Todd), Elise Strickland (Drew), Lacey Anders (Bryan) and BJ Hall (Tracy); and great-grandchildren, Maddi McGaughy, Logan Boothe, Lexi Boothe, Ella Grace Hudson, Anna Kate Hudson, Mabree Claire Strickland, Emery Caroline Strickland, Macey Jo Anders, Aubrey Ann Anders, Mary Hall and Cullas Hall.
Alvin served seven years in the United States Army including two tours in Germany. He retired in 1987 from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department after 33 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening; having truck farmed in his early years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood working.He loved the Lord, his wife, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all he had. He loved his friends and family that he had breakfast with at Buddy's and McDonald's, they were special to him.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Hamner, Randy Hamner, Woody Hamner, Jeff Hewitt, Donnie Black, Bert Guy, Mark Guy, Robbie Lavender and Jeff Fulmer.
Honorary pallbearers are Friendship Sunday School Class, retired ATF officers, FBI officers and state troopers, employees and former employees of the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Department, all of his round table buddies at Buddy's restaurant and McDonald's, employees of Buddy's, Dr. Brian Wilhite, Dr. David Hinton and Dr. Edward Carraway.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Carroll's Creek Baptist fund or Eagles Wings
