A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Sunday April 11, 2021 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to service. Mike Skipper and Mike Jacobs officiating the chapel service with Terry Billings officiating the graveside service at Memory Hill Gardens following the service.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by: his parents Elbert and Lila Hughes, in-laws O.L. and Erin House, brothers Tommy Hughes, Eugene Hughes, brother-in-law Jack Howell, sister-in-laws Eileen Hughes and Linda Hughes
Survivors include his wife Mavis House Hughes, daughters: Melinda Billings (Terry), Vickey Phillips (Walter) sons: Barney Bill Hughes Jr. (Annette), Darrel Hughes (Sara) sisters: Octavia Howell, Hazel Ann Brown Capes (Ron), Mary Ruth Butler (Bobby) sister-in-law Judy Hughes brothers: Jimmy Hughes, brother-in-law Orman House Jr. grandchildren: Jason (Amber), Matt (Lauren), Kyle (Becca) Billings, Jed (Jessie), Bryan Hughes, Krista (Brad) Johnson, Julia Phillips, Misty Weekley great - grandchildren: Abigail, Isabella, Lila, Eleanor, Lincoln, Ella Rose and Mary Frances Billings, McKenzie and Grayson Hughes, Madilyn Grace and Crawford Johnson and Olivia Peffer and his special pet Roxie and numerous nieces and nephews

Honorary pallbearers: Members of Alabama National Guard, Members of Five Points Baptist Church, special friends to include Jimmy and Lanetta Crowe, all the special care givers over the past year to include the many Doctors.

Barney Bill Hughes was born in Pickens County Alabama May 24, 1937. He joined the Alabama National Guard in 1956, graduated from Carrollton High School in 1957. He went on to work at Westinghouse before his marriage to the love of his life Mavis House in July 1958. Later moving to Tuscaloosa County where they raised their four children. Barney B. was a long time member of the Alabama National Guard for 42 years where he had a full time career of 36 years before his retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer CW4 in 1997. He was a long time member of the Five Points Baptist Church.
He was also involved in his community where he coached Little League baseball, was a Scout Master for Troop 15 and Advisor for Post 15. He also officiated high school football where he became regional coordinator. He would also call scrimmage games for Alabama football by the request of Coach Bryant and Coach Perkins. He loved all Alabama sports.
Pawpaw Bill also loved his family and spending time with them fishing, hunting, camping and going to their ballgames.
