Carolyn Liz Hurst Harpole

TUSCALOOSA: Carolyn "Liz" Hurst Harpole, age 63 of Tuscaloosa, died July 28, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Y. Harpole Jr.; her mother, Lou Faye Hurst; her father, French Chandler Hurst; and her brother, Jerry Hurst. Survivors include her daughter, Jeanie Shumaker (Lewis); sons, James Wesley Harpole (Ann), Christopher Brian Harpole (Aimee), James Y. Harpole III (Christy), and John Carl Harpole (Sara); sister, Charlotte Simpson (Tommy); brother, Gene David Hurst; 11 grandchildren; and special friend, Evan Hammond. Originally from Tazewell Tennessee, she made her home in Tuscaloosa for the past forty years. A loving mother and dedicated nurse, she will be missed by many. Pallbearers will be John Harpole, Forrest Harpole, Will Harpole, James Harpole, Jim Harpole, Lewis Shumaker, and Adam Shumaker.
