

NORTHPORT – Catherine Barr Hollingsworth, age 86, of Northport, Ala., died September 29, 2016. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. at Northport Baptist Church, October 1, 2016. A reception will follow.A private family burial will be held at Flatwoods Baptist Church before the memorial service at Northport Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Hollingsworth; parents, Howard Green and Eva Dixon Barr; sister, Elsie Barr Warren; and brother, W.J. Barr.
Survivors include her twin daughters, Ann Hollingsworth, Amy Simmons (Tom); grandson, Thomas Lamar Simmons IV; sister, Frances Templeton; brother, Howard Eugene Barr; god daughter, Judy Musick; and a special thanks to her niece, Shirley Grizzaffi, for helping us during her last days.
Catherine was born in Northport, a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High and Draughn's Business College. Prior to real estate, she worked as a secretary to Buford Boone, Sr. Publisher of The Tuscaloosa News, Congressman Arminstead Selden, Jr. in Washington, assistant manager of historic Highland Park Shopping Village in Dallas until it was sold. It was the 2nd shopping center built in the United States. She was a realtor for 39 years and deeply appreciated by all the sellers, buyers and friends and everyone associated with real estate who helped her along the way, including: Bob Morrow, Jerry Cooper, Bill Trick and Danny Smith, all who gave her a ""hand up"".She was active in Tuscaloosa County High Alumni affairs and for five years chaired the annual outstanding Alumni Award Committee for recipients Joe Langston, Dr. Joe Shipp, Lurleen Wallace, Charlie Sealy and W.W ""Foats"" Clements, CEO of Dr. Pepper Co.She enjoyed being a part of the founding of the Northport Heritage Museum and other Northport Civic endeavors.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Simmons, Brian Barr, B.J. Barr, Darrell Hubbard, James Mize, Steven Barr and Danny Lynn.
Honorary pallbearers are friends of Northport Baptist Church, members of the Friendship Sunday School Class, friends of Historic Northport, 1948 Class of TCHS, real estate friends and The Danny Smith Realty family and Annie Gibson and family.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Northport Baptist Church or Northport Heritage Museum, P.O.
