Charles Edward Childers

Charles E. “Sonny” Childers, age 70, of Coker, died May 11, 2012, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie B. Childers; his mother, Lucille J. Nelson; his stepfather, Richard Alt Nelson; and his brothers, Lonnie Childers and Lester Childers.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Lord Childers; his daughters, Dawn Hamberg (Dave) and Sandy Boisclair (Charles); his sons, Charles Wayne “Chuck” Childers and Richard David Childers (Tiffany); his stepchildren, Amy W. Childers (Steve), Lynda Ingram (Barry), and Susan Montgomery (Edward): his sisters and brothers, Dorothy Goodwin, Mary Sue Kozlowski (Paul), Becky Cantrell (Pete), Galen Childers (Brenda), R.J. Childers, and Bonnie Bridgeman; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Allen Bridgeman, Christopher Hamberg, John Halcomb, Jeremy Swiney, Dennis Thrasher, Jeremy Bridgeman, Jonathan Hollingsworth, and Christopher Appling.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Moores Bridge Baptist Church, friends and neighbors of Sawmill Road in Coker, friends of Carolwood Baptist Church, Dr. Gene Alldredge, Dr. B. Hogan, Hospice of West Alabama, Galen Childers, our friend Nancy Kelley, Jerry Wood, John Grimes, Willie Smith, Candie Sexton, Bonnie Childers, and Shirley Fleming.
