Charles E. Alexander was born on May 21st, 1952, to A.O. Alexander and Runette (Kytle) Alexander. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1970 and briefly attended the University of Alabama. He served as a linguist in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1980 and from 1980 to 1991 in the USAF Reserves, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He met Debbie Harris at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, where they married in 1974 before deploying to Germany together. When he left active duty, they made their home in Raytown, Missouri. He was a member, and twice Worshipful Master, of McDonald Lodge 324 in Independence, Missouri, and Associate Guardian of Bethel 29 of the International Order of Job's Daughters in Independence.
In 1997, they moved to Conyers, GA, and spent the next 22 years there, where they were active members and volunteers for Hemophilia of Georgia, Relay for Life, and a local breast cancer support group. In 2019, they moved back to Tuscaloosa to be near one of their daughters and her family. He survived a stroke in 2016 and a broken hip in 2020. He suffered a second, massive stroke on May 28 and died May 29th.
Charles is survived by his wife, Debbie (Harris) Alexander; his daughter Regina (Alexander) Cross and husband Colin Cross of Moberly, MO; his daughter Rebecca (Alexander) May and husband Brian May, of Buhl, AL; his son Sean Alexander of the home, grandsons Gavin May, David Cross, and Garrett May, his brothers Larry Alexander of Tuscaloosa and Richard Alexander of Gonzales, LA, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 PM on June 5, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home Northport AL. with the family receiving friends one hour prior.
