Mr. Coleman Campbell, Jr. of Samantha, Alabama celebrated his home-going to meet Jesus, His Savior on August 31, 2025. And on Heaven’s golden shore, his long-awaited sweetheart of sixty-seven years, Betty Jane, has reunited with him in Heavenly matrimony.
♫♬ “No more night, no more pain. No more tears, never crying again; And praises to the great, “I Am,” We shall live in the light of the risen Lamb.”
A faithful husband and father, Coleman, Jr. is preceded in his home-going by his wife of sixty-seven years, Betty Jane; His precious mother, Stelle Mae Campbell; siblings Robert Mae ‘Bobbie’ Gilliam (W.S.) & Kathleen Campbell Nix (Firpo). He is survived by his children, Lori Jane Abercrombie (Steve), Charles Ray (Chuck) Campbell (Rana) & Coleman (Champ) Campbell (Rebecca); grandchildren Jessica Lineberry (Trent), Anna Victoria Campbell & Andrew Coleman Campbell (Rosa). Coleman, Jr. was a devoted uncle to his loving nieces, Rhonda Lynn Gilliam & Pamela Kay Gilliam; nephews Rodney Gilliam & Todd Gilliam.
It would be in the beginning years of Tuscaloosa’s first organization of the Nazarene Church, constructed at 2415 15th Street & Greensboro Avenue, that Daddy would meet our precious mother, Betty Jane Simmons. She would grace his life with her love and musical talent and later accept his hand in marriage on June 29, 1957. During the early days of Camp Meeting, the two sweethearts would sing in the support ensemble for Bill & Gloria Gaither. Steadfast in his encouraging faith, Daddy would go on to make possible the family’s gospel singing career as “The Campbell Family.” Singing in beautiful harmony, the family would witness in churches country-wide, health care facilities and on local television. The songs, “I Know a Man Who Can” & “Just a Little Talk with Jesus” were his favorite in which he sang lead. As a brick mason & mechanic, Daddy would work long hours in heat & freezing temps to provide for his family.
Although he will be missed here on Earth, we would not wish Daddy back for anything this world has to offer. For Daddy and Momma are with their Lord, free from pain and heartache, and are happily awaiting us to join them. We are sincerely grateful to Dr. Charles Nolen and staff of Fayette, Al, DCH MICU nurses and doctors, Samantha Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. Jason Reed, Mr. Perry Jarrel, Rhonda Gilliam, Rodney Gilliam, Pam Gilliam, Todd Gilliam and many friends of the Samantha community.
We acknowledge all glory, power & praise unto our Redeemer, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God & everlasting Father. Amen and amen.
