Born on November 30, 1950, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Faris David and Ruby Kendrick, David was a man of deep and unwavering faith. He dedicated much of his life to studying the Bible, ministering, and mentoring youth at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Whether he was coaching basketball and softball for the RA’s, leading Children’s Church, or serving in the bus ministry, his impact on young lives was profound. A milestone of his spiritual journey was becoming an ordained minister, an honor that allowed him the special joy of marrying his son and daughter-in-law.
David carried his spirit of mentorship into his professional life. He served with distinction at Seamless Hospital Products and spent 30 years of dedicated service as a Project Manager/ Analyst in Materials Management at DCH. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and hard work.
While David had many passions—including traveling by car and motorcycle and learning to play the violin, bass guitar, and cello. His greatest joy was spending time with and making lifelong memories with his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 53 years, Mary Gwendolyn Kendrick. Meeting in elementary school, they developed a lasting love for one another and deep dedication to their family. He loved being a father and husband, but of all his titles, his favorite was "Papa D." He was his grandsons' biggest fan, whether in the stands of baseball or football, or watching online, he never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. Whether at one of their games or an Alabama basketball game, he was always on a mission to find the concession stand with the best stadium dogs.
David is survived by his wife, Mary Gwendolyn Kendrick; daughter, Michelle (Brian) Lindsey; son, Brian "Dave" (Helen) Kendrick; and his cherished grandsons, Dylan Miles and Colton Brian Lindsey.
