Donald Ray Gilbert, age 83, of Alexander City, died May 20, 2012, at Brown Nursing Home in Alexander City. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; his parents; and his siblings, Gladys Tankensley, Milton Gilbert, Athol Mann, Wayne Gilbert, Lloyd Gilbert, and Dorothy Hodges.
Survivors include his children, Don Gilbert (Wanda) of Alexander City, Sharon Yates of Montgomery, and Doug Gilbert of Atlanta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Stacey Reed, Ashley Gilbert (Sara), Greg Gilbert, Nathan Yates (Ashley), Parker Yates, and Mallory Yates; his sister, Aulene Scott; and his sister-in-law, Ted Gilbert.
He was born January 10, 1929, in Goodwater, Ala. to the late Henry Pierce Gilbert and Evie Parks Gilbert.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association or the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.
