

Dorothy Susan Drummond Calhoun, "Dot", age 86, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Dot was born on December 20, 1938, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Rhynia Ruth Sellers Drummond and Pinkney “Clayton” Drummond. She was a proud graduate of Greene County High School, class of 1957.
On September 20, 1958, Dot married the love of her life, John Hugh Calhoun at Beulah Baptist Church in Greene County. They shared over 64 years of marriage. As a teen, Dot worked alongside her mother at V J Elmore, the local five and dime in Eutaw. She then worked as a telephone operator for Ma Bell before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was affectionately known as the queen of dominoes, loved playing a fierce game of Rook, working puzzles, coloring, and Bible study. Dot took great pride in raking every leaf from her yard and picking blueberries. Her last greatest joy was delighting in her new great-grandson, Lincoln Hugh. Dorothy was a life-long member of Northwood Hills Baptist Church and faithful participant in their Primetimer’s Bible study.
Dorothy is survived by her son, John “Carl“ Calhoun of Northport; daughter, Carol Sue Calhoun of Northport; granddaughter, Cheryl Calhoun Elmore (Andrew) of Northport; great grandson, Lincoln Hugh Elmore of Northport; sister-in-law, Beverly Calhoun Lockridge; brother-in-law, Wilford Calhoun (Deborah); sister-in-law, Debra Calhoun Pitts (Jim), and cousins Iris Sinclair, Lois Stanley (Stan), and Myrtle. Dot leaves behind friends from church like Sybel Billings, other Primetimers, new friends at Morning Pointe, and Valerie Cote.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Hugh Calhoun; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Jean McCullough Calhoun; infant sister, Susan, and parents, Rhynia and Clayton Drummond.
A graveside service for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11:00 am at Piney Woods Cemetery, located on SR-69, Northport, Alabama, 35473 with Rusty Selman presiding. Lunch will be served at Northwood Hills Baptist Church, 3463 Hwy 69 North, Northport, AL, following the service.
Pallbearers are Jim Pitts, Brian Lockridge, Brad Lockridge, Billy Wharton, and Ben Calhoun.
