

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Fields officiating. Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, will be directing the service. His final resting place will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leland Edward and Alice Afrey Swindle Wood and uncle, Jackson Swindle.
He is survived by his aunt, Dorothy Swindle; cousins, Wanda Lane of Chesapeake, Va. and Glenda Batte of Virginia Beach, Va.
Dwight's family circle was small, but he was surrounded by many that loved him and chose to be family. Dwight had a large group of friends at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center where he worked for 28 years. He had close fellowship and friendship with members at the Bethany Baptist Church in Coker, Ala. He was also blessed to have close friends, Susan Coats and Earl McDaniel.
Dwight's greatest joys in life included caring for his mother, worshiping the Lord, vacationing in Hawaii and cheering on sports teams at the University of Alabama.
His favorite sport was baseball. Dwight was dubbed as "Superfan" of the University of Alabama's baseball team. He loved the game. He loved the team and they loved him.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 14233 Upper Columbus Rd, Coker, AL 35452 or University of Alabama Sports.
