

George Blair Simpson, Jr., was born in Attalla, Alabama, on December 15th, 1944. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in June 1963, and he then continued his education at Auburn University. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and completed his degree with a Bachelor of Sciences in Business Administration in August of 1967. George enlisted in the United States Air Force in late 1967 and honorably served his country for 4 years, including a 13-month tour in Vietnam from 1970-1971. He retired from a long career with CitiBank Financial in 2007.
After retiring, George found enjoyment in spending time with his wife and family, keeping an immaculate yard, and cheering on the Auburn Tigers. He was a dear husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather, and faithful member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.
George is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rebecca Simpson; his son, Clint Simpson (Ruth), and his daughter, Bethany Hagler (Josh); his grandchildren, Abigail, Tyler, Mariah, Sam, and Charlotte; his brother, James “Jim” Simpson (Kate); and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, George Blair Simpson, Sr.; his mother, Hazel Smith Simpson; and Sherry Simpson.
Visitation for George will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am followed by a Celebration of Life at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Alabama National Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jacob Hanson, Blake Hanson, Mike Hanson, Jonathan Holloway, Michael Holloway, Jim Simpson, Tyler Simpson, and Scott Weseli. Honorary Pallbearers are Tom Blair, Tom Green, and Doug Rhodes.
