Glenn Acker

Mr. Joe Glenn Acker Sr., born December 12, 1942, age 80, of Carrollton, passed away November 16, 2023, at his residence. Visitation services will be held Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 6 to 8pm at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, AL. Funeral and graveside service will take place Monday, November 20, 2023, at 11am located at Glen Echo Freewill Baptist Church in Carrollton. The graveside service will be officiated by Reverend Tony Latham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Childers, Brenda Childers, and Dr. Julia Boothe.

Active pallbearers will be Buddy Acker, Caleb Acker, Robert Acker, Scott Driver, Howard Hill, and Mike McDaniel.

Survivors include his children: Renee Acker Gant (Preston), Joe Glenn Acker Jr. (Dana). Grandchildren: Buddy Acker, Caleb Acker (Kaylee), Monica Acker Patton, and Lindy Acker. He was also a great-grandfather to many, that are both blood and non-blood related.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Hugh B. and Corine E. Acker, sisters: Thelma Hill (Daniel) and Brenda Jones (Harrel) (Joe), brother: Ellis Acker (Nell), daughter: Monica Lynn Acker, grandson: Timothy Acker, and nephew: Taylor McDaniel aka Bacon.

He was widowed by his first wife, Cheryl Lynn Acker, whom he was married to for 50 years. As well as his second wife, Virginia Nolan, whom he was married to for 4 years.

Glenn was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He began tree climbing / trimming at the age of 16. He then began doing this for the City of Tuscaloosa for the next 15 years, until he was given the opportunity to work for the University of Alabama in landscape where he stayed for 18 years until retirement. Everyone that met him instantly became family to him.
