Ina S Herring

Ina Sue Herring, lovingly known as "Ina" to most and "Nomie" to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at the age of 87 however, she will forever be "19". She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, strong faith, cherished family traditions, and countless memories that will live on through those who knew and loved her.

Ina was born on January 16, 1939, and lived a life centered around faith, family, and service to others. She found joy in traveling during her younger years, tending to her garden, sewing, cooking, and participating in church events at Skyland Baptist Church. Above all, she treasured every moment spent with her family. She was known for making the very best home-cooked meals and keeping the family's favorite recipes. Whenever someone asked how she made one of her delicious dishes, her familiar response was always,

"Ain't nothing to it." Those simple words became one of her many trademarks and will forever bring smiles to those who loved her.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Virginia Herring; Sharon Brown (Kevin); and Duane Herring (Cindy Barger). She was a proud grandmother to Angela McLareah, Dewayne Washington, Kristie Carner (Jason), David Turner, Brooke Blackstock (Daniel), and Brandi Hannah (Blake). She was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Ina was preceded in death by her father, Frelin Hysaw; her mother, Tommie Sue Hysaw; her brothers, Edwin Hysaw and Douglas Hysaw; and her sisters, Dorothy Woods and Myra Jean Hysaw.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ina's devoted caregivers, Bobbi Essary, Ruby Harbin, and the compassionate staff of Amedisys Home Health, whose kindness, care, and support meant so much during her final years.

Public visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, with a graveside service immediately following.

Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Hannah, Kevin Brown, David Turner, Jason Carner, Hayden Carner, and Landon Carner. Honorary pallbearer will be Daniel Blackstock.

Ina's greatest accomplishments were not measured by worldly achievements, but by the love she gave so freely, the faith she lived by, and the family she nurtured. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, and treasured traditions will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
