Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Lora Lee Heifner of Maplesville, AL and his sister Mae Francis Fulford (Claude) of Plantersville, AL.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rita Davis Heifner and son, Byron Neal Heifner (Leigh) of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was a very proud Granddaddy to Harrison Stutts Heifner and Ella Katherine Heifner. He is also survived by his brother, Olin Heifner of Trussville, AL and sister, Barbara Ann “Mickey” Nichols (Huey) of Tuscaloosa, AL, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jack graduated from Dallas County High School in 1964 where he played football and basketball. He attended Montevallo University before enlisting in the USAF just shy of graduating. Jack honorably served his country as an Airman in the USAF in Radio Communications. Following his service, he worked for South Central Bell/Bellsouth/AT&T in various roles of ascending responsibilities retiring in 1997. He graduated from Faulkner University with a BBA in Business in 1995. He retired from AT&T to work for BE&K in Birmingham, AL then helped start and worked for Summit Engineering. Following his ultimate retirement, Jack enjoyed being an involved grandparent to Harrison and Ella. It is without argument that he was their biggest fan. Revered for his calmness and organization, Jack took great pride in being watchful and supportive to his neighbors, coworkers, friends, and relatives.
A private service will be held in Tuscaloosa.
