He was born September 10, 1937 in Tuscaloosa Alabama to Vela Allen Booth and Etta Camp Booth. He was preceded in death by his sister, Vera Shinholster, and brothers-in-law, LJ Shinholster, Henry Goodman, and Jerry House.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Kayoko Maruyama Booth, his daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Sam Smelley, his grandchildren, Tamara and Matthew Stone, and Ryan and Stephanie Smelley, and his great-granddaughter Martha Mae Smelley. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Allen and Wanda Booth, and sisters, Dorothy Goodman and Faye House, as well as his nieces and nephews.
Jamie enlisted in the US Air Force in 1957. He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan where he met the love of his life Kayo at the air base where they both worked. They were married in 1958 and lived in Tokyo until he returned to the United States in 1960 after his father passed away. He was honorably discharged in 1961. He and Kayo lived in Alabama and then moved to California. They eventually returned to Alabama making Northport their permanent home. He enjoyed being self-employed and started a few small businesses. In 1988, he started Booth Utility Contractors Inc, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2009. He loved working and loved his employees. After retiring, he enjoyed taking trips to Pigeon Forge and Cade’s Cove. He was a kind hearted person, always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved his family and was a wonderful loving husband, Dad, and Dagee.
Pallbearers will be Sam Smelley, Ryan Smelley, Matthew Stone, Paul Smelley, Danny Hydrick, and Danny Holcomb.
Honorary pallbearers are all his coffee drinking buddies and his long time friends Johnny Wheat, LB Smith, and Bob Hager.
