Jeremy Douglas Kirk, age 49, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at DCH Hospital — the very same place where his life began. He was surrounded by family and friends as he entered into the arms of his Savior.
Jeremy was born on November 10, 1975, to Roger Kirk and Bonnie Allen Sims (Johnny Sims). On April 22, 2006, he married the love of his life, Katie Boyd Kirk. For 19 years they shared a love that was steadfast and true — a bond built on laughter, faith, and friendship. Katie often said that Jeremy wasn’t just her husband, but her best friend and soulmate, the person who made every day brighter just by being in it.
For 20 years, Jeremy worked with the Alabama Department of Transportation, where he was known for his dedication, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. His coworkers and friends knew him as someone who always had a story to tell, a joke to share, and an encouraging word ready when times were tough.
Jeremy’s interests were as warm and genuine as his heart. He loved Alabama football, gaming on his PlayStation with his buddies, tending to his plants, talking on his ham radio, reading comic books, and spending time with those he loved. He had a gift for connection — always checking in whether a text, snap streaks, or a tik tok that he knew you would love, always listening, always caring. He especially loved traveling and was eagerly looking forward to a trip to Hawaii in February.
Jeremy’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father to his daughter Claire, and a loyal son, brother, and friend. His quiet strength, sense of humor, and deep compassion will live on in all who knew him.
Jeremy is survived in life by his loving wife, Katie Kirk, and their daughter, Claire Kirk; his mother Bonnie Sims (Johnny Sims); grandparents J.C. and Lorene Sims; siblings Kim Weidenback (Chris), Candice Reynolds (Wes), Clayton Sims (Tori), Kelli Ball (John), April Kirk, and Robert Kirk; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leigh Anne and Scott Selmanoff; father-in-law, Kevin Boyd (Lauria); sister-in-law Lauren Boyd; brother-in-law Steven Boyd (Vesna); and grandmother-in-law Martha Wooten. He is also cherished by his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Kirk; grandparents Roy and Mildred Kirk and John and Frances Allen; and grandfather-in-law Jerry Wooten.
Jeremy’s life was a reflection of love — love for God, for his family, and for others. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing he is now healed and at peace in the arms of Jesus. As Scripture reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
You can honor Jeremy by showing kindness, offering a helping hand, or simply taking the time to reach out to someone you love — just as he always did.
A visitation for Jeremy will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home, located at 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, AL 35473 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 11:00 am at Circlewood Baptist Church, 2201 Loop Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
