

TUSCALOOSA | Jerry Gay Jones, Sr. ""Pop"", age 74, of Tuscaloosa, passed away to his eternal home on November 13, 2015. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Jeremy Donald officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Monday, November 16, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Etta Jones; brothers, Cecil, Mitchell, Harold, David and Dan Jones; and sisters, Marie Bowling and Joyce Starnes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sarah Jones; daughters, Gayla Jones Mayhall and Charlotte Swartz (Daniel); sons, Jerry Jones, Jr. and Terry Jones (Lori); ten grandchildren, Brittney Barger, Shane Jones, Tiffney Smitherman (Brett), Dustin Jones (Brittany), Jordan Quinn, Kelsea Jones, Reid Swartz, Matt Swartz, Trista Harrell, Heather St. John (Tyler) and Reggie Cook (Nikki); five great-grandchildren, Preston, Bentlee, Mason, Mia and Hayden; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jerry was known as Pop, Papaw and Daddy Jones not only to his blood children but by so many others that he loved as his own through the years.
Jerry loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his grandchildren that were the absolute loves of his life. Jerry was an avid Auburn fan and made sure everyone knew it.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Jones, Brett Smitherman, Austin Price, Dale Cook, Brent Cook, Reggie Cook, Reid Swartz and Richard Jones.
Honorary pallbearers are his Holt little league baseball players, the Holt community, Ray Jones, Tommy Jones, Larry Jones, Charlie Seaman, Sherrie Kemp and Amber Hamilton.
A special thanks to his special nurses, Amanda Bradford and Hannah Henslee for taking such good care of him during his hospital stay and Dr. Jeffrey Anderson.
