

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Jimmy lived a life defined by his deep love for family, friends, and sports.
Jimmy was a passionate sports enthusiast who especially loved the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Atlanta Braves, and the Miami Dolphins. His enjoyment of athletics extended far beyond spectating—he devoted many years to coaching football and baseball, inspiring and mentoring countless young athletes along the way. He also found great joy in bowling and treasured the fellowship and friendships it brought into his life.
Above all, Jimmy will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and the lasting memories he created with them.
He is survived by his devoted daughters, Vickie Sanders Samuel and Sonya Bozeman (Storm); his cherished grandchildren, Larry Howard, Marissa Samuel, and Keyanna Gonzalez (Tyler); and his beloved great-grandchildren, Kynidee Howard, as well as three bonus great-grandchildren, Khyshon Hatten, Khaleesi Hatten, and Kaia Gonzalez. He is also survived by his brother, Johnny Sanders (Robbin), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Lois Higgs and Luther Melton Sanders; his loving wife, Betty Jane Sanders; his son, Darrell Sanders; and his siblings, David Sanders, Robert Sanders, Connie Sanders, Luther Sanders Jr., Paul Sanders, Kenneth Sanders, and his sisters, Christeen Baker and Frances Sanders.
Jimmy’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave so generously. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation for Jimmy will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm with Bro. Moe Smith officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Caston Clary, Bo Minor, Heath Minor, Josh McMahan, Michael Pearson, and Eric Samuel. Honorary Pallbearers are Aliceville Manor Nursing Home and DCH 6th Floor Nurses and PCAs.
