Johnnie E. Livingston
November 8, 1929 – April 15, 2021
Johnnie E. Livingston, age 91, passed away on April 15, 2021. Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home on Friday, April 23, from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held Sunday, April 25, at 2:00 p.m., at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Coker, Al., with Rev. Tim Tindle officiating.
Mr. Livingston was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Martha Livingston. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Burns (Terry), grandsons Corbin Burns and Callan Burns, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Johnnie was born on November 8, 1929, in the Moore’s Bridge community. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Army, with nearly a dozen tours of duty. Upon retirement he obtained training to service computers, where he did so with Veterans Affairs for over 15 years until his retirement in 1992. He then divided his time between newspaper delivery, DCH valet parker, gardening, and enjoying his grandsons’ sporting events.
As one who loved life and staying active, his was a life to be celebrated. Those closest to him are grateful to hold onto memories of, among others: his trademark smile and chuckle with twinkling, powder blue eyes; the “Howdy’s” to every stranger; his decades- long love and service to His church; his ability to resourcefully construct just about anything, stories of his sports heroics, from Buhl to Korea; his advice, which he was not bashful in sharing, being near always correct; his eagerness and energy to always help anyone in need; his example of loving God, Family, Country.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Barrett, Jimmy Battle, Corbin Burns, Callan Burns, Tim Burns, Dale Cook, Doug Cook, Terry Cook, Gary Newman, Mark Posey, Steve Sanders, Jack Sanders, Jerry Smelley, Jack Smith, and Dana Stamps.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Mt. Olive Baptist and Romulus Methodist churches, friends and neighbors of Carolwood Lakeview, and those who provided friendship and company for him in his final years.
In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to Hospice of West Al. or Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
