Johnny Michael “Mike” Liveoak, Sr., son of Rev. Elvin and Rosa Lee Liveoake was born September 20, 1949 and went to join his parents in his new heavenly home on February 16. 2021.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sonia, his three loving children and their spouses, Christa (Johnny), John, Jr. (Shawn) and Jeremy (Kristie).

One of his greatest pleasures in life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and making them his famous milkshakes.

He is also survived by his only brother Jerry (Vivian).

Mike had a gift of making strangers feel like lifelong friends, of whom he had many. Mike instilled by example his values of faith, honesty, hard work , integrity, and empathy to his children.

He was known for his quick wit, and was the “King of Puns”, even though some of his material may have come from the Readers Digest.

His work on earth is done, which included Army National Guard, designing and building saw mills and metal fabricating equipment, He was a gifted salesman of the equipment he designed both nationally and internationally. His last employment was selling automobiles, at which he excelled.

Mike struggled with heart disease for many years but undoubtedly his heart was given so much to his family and friends that it finally succumbed to the disease. He loved spending time with family, Alabama Football, golf and making his Sunday school members laugh. He was known for entertaining his grand’s and great-grand’s by talking like Donald Duck. He enjoyed antique cars and keeping his lawn. “His absence will be great, but his presence in our hearts will always be greater.”

Services will be held Friday February 19, 2021 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Northport AL. Visitation will be at 10:00am and the funeral following at 11:00am. Social distancing guidelines will be observed. The graveside service will be at 1:30pm at Fourmile Baptist Church, where Mike and Sonia first met.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at

If you knew him, you knew that he was one of the greatest men you would ever meet. He loved like no other. He taught me patience and love and forgiveness. He taught me what family means, and it was most certainly not just by blood. He was so fun, and it didn’t matter what we were doing, a belly laugh (or many) were certainly going to happen. I love you my sweet Papa...until I see you again! ❤️

I don’t have enough words to say what I want too about my dad. He taught me everything I know about everything. Always love and appreciate family. Work hard and laugh harder. Always be a man and take care of your wife and treat her like a queen. I know it is a cliche but he was the greatest man I have ever met. He taught me to do anything you do if it’s shoveling a ditch or building a million dollar piece of equipment do it the best you can. I love you and will miss you every day of my life. My greatest reward is knowing I made you proud. Your son

Papa always made the best milkshakes! Our visits were never complete without one of his famous milkshakes.

Ever since I was a young boy I have always looked up to Mike and Jerry! They always set such a great Christian example for all of us! My Dad always had a good laugh at how Mike was such a Ham when someone raised a camera or video camera! He always brightned up the room wherever he went! I only wish we were given more time to spend together these last few years! Sonjia, thanks for being such a great wife and supporting Mike all these years! He has been truly blessed by you and the rest of his family! We love yall and have always been blessed to be part of the Liveoak family! I am so greatful to know this life is so temporary and we will all be together again for eternity! We are always just a phone call away! Mark Liveoak!

Dear Sonia:
Our hearts break with you and for you. Mike was such a sweet, kind, funny man. We can't imagine your pain. We are so blessed that we got the chance to have both of you as friends and will certainly maintain that friendship with you. He will certainly be missed but he is now in the arms of Jesus and free from pain. Tom and I love you and are praying for you.

Love, Karen and Tom Deaver
