

Joseph D. Perkins, age 82, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was born on May 11, 1943, in Fayette and remained deeply rooted in his community throughout his life.
Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Don Perkins (Dagmar) of Oppenheim, Germany; Michael Perkins (Jo) of Northport, Alabama; and Kimberly Thompson (Lee) of Northport, Alabama. His legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Condra Worrell of Fayette. Joe’s life was enriched by the bonds she shared with his family and the many memories they created together.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilda Perkins; parents, Mayburn and Winnifred Perkins of Fayette, Alabama; and his brother, Dean Perkins of Northport, Alabama.
Desiring to serve his country, Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1962. He served one tour of duty as a Marine infantryman in the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before retiring from the Marines in 1982 after 20 years of Honorable Service.
A man of deep faith and commitment to service, Joe was a longtime active member of Five Points Baptist Church in Northport. His presence there was a source of strength and encouragement to many over the years.
A visitation for Joe will be held at Five Points Baptist Church, 3718 36th Street, Northport, Alabama, 35473, on September 26, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location, starting at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Sulphur Springs Church Cemetery in Samantha, Alabama.
Joseph Donald Perkins will be remembered for the love he gave so freely and the steadfast spirit he carried throughout his life. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and cherished him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Five Points Baptist Church or to one’s favorite charity.
