

2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Shaddix, and Rev. Rusty Selman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Tuck Hardy; and her father, Alvin E. Hardy, Sr.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Freeman of Northport; son, Patrick Freeman of Northport; sister, Katina Vicari (Steve) of Fountain Inn, S.C.; brothers, Alvin Hardy (Karen) of Simpsonville, S.C., and Richard A. Hardy (Judy) of Greer, S.C..
Karen was a dedicated nurse at DCH Regional Medical Center for over 25 years. She also volunteered her skills in many different capacities, most often as the designated nurse on almost every field trip and extra-curricular activity during her son’s school years.
After retirement, in 2009, Karen volunteered at Good Samaritan Clinic until a fall cut short her ability to serve others as well as she hoped. Karen’s life was characterized by dignity, compassion, and a continual desire to serve God and others.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Barnes, Josh Bridges, Jason Hallman, Mike Kizer, Jonathan Shaddix, Jarrett Shepherd, and Travis Tidmore.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Keith DeBell, Dr. Brian Wilhite, Dr. Richard Shamblin, Dr. Marissa Natelson-Love, Dr. Thomas Emig, former co-workers, 5-South and case management, DCH Regional Medical Center, members of Northwood Hills Baptist Church, Louise and Frank Maxwell, Nellie Keasling, friends and colleagues, UA College of Education, nurses and support staff, Magnolia Lane, Glen Haven Nursing Home, sitters, complete nursing services, Hospice of West Alabama, and Colin Barrett.
