Summerville (Frank) of Laurel, Miss.; nephew, Benjamin Clay Brown (Adrianne) Northport, Ala.; great nieces, Elizabeth Ann Summerville, Laurel, Miss. and Joanna Kathryn Brown of Northport, Ala.; and precious four legged friend and companion: Abbie.
Kathy was born on November 6, 1957 at Druid City Hospital. She was the first of four siblings. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12. Kathy had an ingrained love of education. She graduated, with honors, from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1976. Fulfilling a childhood dream, Kathy received a Bachelors' of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama's Capstone College of Nursing in August of 1980. She devoted her entire thirty-six year career to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at DCH Regional Medical Center. Her passion was hands on care for her special babies.
When not working she enjoyed traveling, visiting New York City, Las Vegas, The Bahama Islands, Scotland and Ireland.
Each year at Christmas she would lovingly wrap her presents, making her own bows out of glitter and sparkle covered ribbon. After presents were opened each family member would be sprinkled by their package's ribbon. She was teased lovingly about her ribbons. I'm sure that none of us will see glitter or sparkles and not think of her. Kathy will always glitter and shine in our hearts.
Pallbearers will be Joe Patton, Scott Anders, Skipper Davis, Robby Davis, Mike Hannah and Christopher Webber.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Hanseek Choi, Dr. Guillermo Godoy, Dr. Javier Repetto, Dr. Rees Oliver, All Nurses from DCH Regional Medical and Northport Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Units, Linda Dunn, Dr. Steven Copeland, Nurses and Staff of 2 SE at DCH and the Manderson Cancer Center.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Kathy S. Brown Nursing Scholarship at Shelton State Community College. Donations should be mailed to the attention of Cindy Harrell/Business Office, 9500 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
