

Kendrell "Ray" Broughton, age 74, entered his Heavenly home at Druid City Hospital on June 19, 2026, after a two-year battle with cancer. Born on April 13, 1952 at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL, Ray was one of three sons born to Elsie Addie Camp Broughton and Bryce Lee Broughton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Addie and Bryce Broughton, and brother, Terry Broughton. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Elliott Broughton; children Jason Broughton, Lesley Selman (Rusty), and Robin White (Clay); grandchildren, Ridgely Selman, Luke White, Rayleigh Selman, and Dean White; brother, Jerry Broughton (Shirley); brother-in-law, Andy Elliott; niece, Kanetha Broughton; nephews, Allen Elliott and Dave Elliott; and many extended family members and friends.
He was a faithful, loving husband to Linda for over 51 years. He was a patient, kind father to his three children and the most amazing Papa to his four grandchildren. Through the years, he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon at Rosedale Baptist, Valley View Baptist, and Northridge Baptist Churches.
Ray grew up in Northport, Alabama and was a member of the Tuscaloosa County High School Class of 1970. He retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire Plant with 33 years of service. Friends there called him Ken. Ray was known well for his green thumb and love of gardening. He enjoyed sharing the vegetables he grew with neighbors, friends, and family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 22nd from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, Alabama. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Sunset with Rev. Tim Fields and Rev. Rusty Selman officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jason Broughton, Ridgely Selman, Luke White, Dean White, Allen Elliott, and Greg Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Anand Pandey, Dr. Pamela Hughes, Dr. Curtis Tucker, Andy Elliott, Tim & Janice Fields, Harold & Hilda Sullivan, Mike & Brenda Burns, and Dwayne & Brenda Colburn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
