NORTHPORT | Larry G. Green (affectionately known in his broad circle of friends as "LG''), age 78, of Northport, passed away quietly on the morning of January 8, 2015, at Forest Manor. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Sunset Memorial Park with the Rev. Dick Hastings officiating. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life gathering following the service.
Survivors include his wife, Christina Bennert Green, of Northport; son, Gregory Lee Green (Sandra) of Gainesville, Ga.; daughter, Kathryn Green Pfirrman (Billy) of Destin, Fla.; grandchildren, Taylor Green, LeeAnn Green, and Travis Green of Gainesville, Ga. and Madison Pfirrman of Destin, Fla.
LG was the only child of the Iate Jennie Mae Williamson Hicks and the Iate Dewey Hobson Green. Although a native of Union Springs, Ala. he spent his formative years in the Circlewood community of Tuscaloosa. Following graduation from Holt High School he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1962. Upon his return from active duty he attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
A man of many hats, LG held various and sundry short term positions during his early employment. From newspaper carrier (via bicycle) to fire fighter he was probably best known for his military style haircutting skills. His true claim to professional fame in Tuscaloosa was as 40 year owner of Miller Electric Co., Inc. until his retirement ten years ago.
LG was a man of great character. He Iived Iife fully, meeting challenges head on, right to the very end. He would spend the Iater part of the month of December pondering New Year's resolutions and commit to them in ink. Throughout the year he would periodically review the Iist and mark items off as they were accomplished - and they were always accomplished - no matter the magnitude of the commitment. He had a dry wit, contagious smile, and a heart as big as Texas.
There are not enough adjectives in the dictionary or pages in this publication to accurately or adequately describe Larry Green. He achieved success in business, but found his greatest personal pleasure to be that of husband, father and grandfather. The Iove he had for those in his circle was boundless. What more could anyone ask for?
The Green family would Iike to thank the staff of Forest Manor for their exemplary care. Special thanks to Christine Clary, Brad Hardemon, Katherine Banks, Kristen White, Angela Garner and Kameka Odum for walking with us on this journey. Additional thanks to LG's assistant Mckeeva Williams-Caddell for being a part of our family.
In Iieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
