Laurine was born in Tuscaloosa to Wyatt Sidney Price, Maurine Bolton Price and big brother, William Sidney Price (Brenda) in 1954. She had fond memories of growing up in the Greenview subdivision meeting her life long friends, Darlene and Deborah Norris.
Laurine was a proud graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School in 1972, and trained with Joyce Farmer to pursue her career as a cosmetologist. Later, Laurine would be an active member of the TCHS alumni association where she loved reconnecting with old classmates.
After high school, she met the love of her life, David Anthony Hughes (as she told the story) “circling Shoney's with friends.” After a short courtship, the couple eloped, waking up a local judge to marry them in his living room.
David and Laurine raised their girls, Natalie Hughes Cook and Amy Hughes Calame (Matt) on David’s family farm in Bethany, Alabama where she stayed busy fishing, growing roses, taking in too many pets, and dodging tornados.
Laurine supported her girls in their every endeavor. Between working in concession stands, heckling opposing church softball teams, and attending fashion shows, beauty walks, dance, gymnastics, baton, clogging, and piano recitals, she was always present and involved in their lives.
Laurine enjoyed traveling and watching David playing in his bands, volunteering at the VFW and Moose Lodge, sunbathing with her friend Sue Rickman in pool boats, Karaoke, and stopping at every boiled peanut stand or curb market on the way to the beach.
After losing David in 1999, she completed putting both girls through college and opened Friends Hair Designs with her friend, Wanda Kelly, where many years of laughter occurred.
The absolute pinnacle of her life was welcoming her grandchildren, Lauren Nicole and John David Calame and Clayborn Hughes and Amelia Belle Cook. She unapologetically spoiled them rotten, always left red lipstick tattoos on their faces and in her words, “felt sorry for people that didn’t have grandchildren as pretty as hers.”
Her family encourages you to honor her love for flashy jewelry, comfortable shoes and red lipstick at a casual visitation Wednesday, June 2, 2021, 12:00-2:00 pm at Sunset Funeral home. Honorary Pall Bearers are her cousin Lou Moody, her niece Christi Price, and all around handy man Emmitt Flucker.
