

Lizzie accepted Christ at an early age and was active in church until she married and moved to Auburn, AL. Lizzie joined the Bell Missionary Baptist Church once arriving to her new home in Auburn. She was a faithful servant until she was unable to attend alone. The marriage produced one child.
Mrs. Lizzie started working in the public sector in several capacities. Later working two jobs simultaneously. She retired in 1995 from the Opelika City School System where she was a cafeteria worker. Late in 2013, Lizzie left East Alabama Medical Hospital where she’d worked along with the school system.
Grandliz is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Fowler, Sr.; brothers, O.D. Blake, William, Walter, Tommy, JD, and Lorenzo Linson all of Lafayette, AL., and five sisters, Judy Jennings, Hattie Walker, Lola Askew, of Lafayette, AL., Lera Carlisle of Atlanta, Georgia and Margaret Caldwell of Melbourne, FL., and Grandson, Shakier Knox of Tuscaloosa, AL.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Bettye Ann Smith Cleveland, Tuscaloosa, AL; one son-in-law, Ronnie Cleveland (Tuscaloosa, AL); two grandsons, Adrian Rowe, Tuscaloosa and LaMundrick Cleveland of Northport, AL.; one granddaughter, LaKeisha Cleveland, Northport; one great-great granddaughter, Atreuna Rowe, Atlanta, Georgia; and two great-great grandsons, Jeremiah Reese and Tony Spencer, Northport, AL.; four special daughters, Pastor Connie Cook (Pastor MacArthur Cook), Opelika, AL., Pastor Gloria Foster, Tuscaloosa, AL., Angela F Nelson, Tuscaloosa, AL., and Gloria Holifield, Montgomery, AL., and a host of nieces and nephews.
For those who knew Lizzie well and called her GranLiz as a term of endearment all knew her as a feisty, very loving, kind, and thoughtful” get-you-told “grandmother. But she was one of those people who was there when you needed her and one who’d never insert herself where not wanted.
Visitation for Lizzie will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.
