Our mother entered heaven on her 97th birthday. What a glorious celebration it was for her as she entered the presents of Jesus her Lord! She loved the Lord and spent her life honoring him in all she did. She always met everyone with a smile, treated everyone with kindness and you immediately became her friend. She served others unselfishly her entire life whether it was rocking a baby, baking a cake, holding someone as they wept or bringing the desperate or dying into our home to be cared for. She mailed thousands of greeting cards from herself and from her ladies bible class. One of the ministries of her ladies bible class is making Love Bears, fabric stuffed bears for children at hospitals, emergency vehicles, etc. Several ladies had different jobs such as cutting, stuffing, etc. Mother did the sewing. She sewed over 15,000 bears!!
Her greatest joy and passion in life was her family. First was her husband, Bill, whom she fell for in 4th grade and married during WWII. She was so proud of her sailor!
They were married 53 years. Through those years they traveled to many places across the country and had many adventures. In 1950 Dad entered the ministry and Mother was truly living out her calling, working along side him in the ministry for 50 years.
After retirement, they moved to Northport and Mother worked for Parisians and then Belk. She loved every one of the little boys she helped dress during her 20 year career.
Oh how she loved her family. Her children: Marsha McKinley and Freddie, Northport, AL, Ken Cox and Trish, Birmingham, AL, Tom Cox and Lisa, Southaven, MS.
Grandchildren: Michael Nelms (Karen), Jennifer Taylor (Donald), Cody Nelms (Charity),
Patrick Cox(Tawny), Karee Dunn, Eric Carroll (Michael), Emily Moore (Todd),
Kristin Spence(Nicole), Kiley Ziregby (Rukky)
Nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Meg Cox walked in dignity and integrity. Her faithfulness to God and service to others was a beautiful example to everyone around her. She was a true Southern Lady, full of grace, fun and laughter. She will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by our Dad, Bill Cox, their first born child, Carla Cox, her parents, Cullen and Virtie Collins and one sister, Jimmie Nell Cross.
She leaves behind special friends Marie Sanders, Shirley Marcum, Suzanne Cunningham, Alvin Dauchy, Seth Streetman, Mary and Lily Crownover.
Active pallbearers are Reid Nelms, David Harrison, Chris Jenks, Jason Morrison, Mark Sullivan and Ken Olivet.
