

Margaret Elizabeth (Beth) Kidder, 87, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was born on December 20, 1938, in Columbus, Mississippi, and passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa after a life devoted to education, service, and helping young people succeed.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Elizabeth Kidder, and her brother, Charles Kidder. She is survived by her siblings: Bill Kidder, Dorothy Jackson, Sarah Whitley (Johnny), Nancy Curl, Evelyn Kidder, and Martha Kidder. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many friends, former students, colleagues, and community members, including her caregiver, Cindy O’Brien.
Born in Columbus, Mississippi, Beth later moved to Fort Payne, Alabama, where she graduated from DeKalb County High School. She attended Mississippi College for Women and later earned a master’s degree in counseling, laying the foundation for a lifelong career in education.
Beth dedicated her professional life to helping students thrive. She began her career teaching in Natchez, Mississippi, and Troy, Alabama, before joining Tuscaloosa City Schools. There, she served as a guidance counselor for both Tuscaloosa High School and Central High School, served as athletic director, and worked with the PRIDE program. She also coached girls’ basketball, as a pioneer during the Title IX era, championed opportunities for female athletes, helping pave the way for future generations. As an educator, counselor, and mentor, she influenced thousands of students, many of whom remained in touch long after graduation. Even after retiring in 2010, Beth continued supporting students through the Night School program, helping them earn diplomas and pursue their goals.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Beth was known for her quick wit, vibrant spirit, and unwavering loyalty to friends. She treasured her years at Camp Wahi, the Neshoba County Fair, and the fellowship of the Red Hat Club. She was a huge Alabama fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Crimson Tide.
Beth’s life was defined by service, perseverance, and a steadfast belief in every student’s potential. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the opportunities she created, and the generations of students she inspired.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa on July 11, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Family, friends, former students, colleagues, and all whose lives Beth touched are invited to celebrate her remarkable life and enduring legacy.
