Mattie Booth Hayes

Mattie Booth Hayes, age 86, of Tuscaloosa, died Nov. 12, 2010, at Forest Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Romulus United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Peeples officiating. Burial will follow in Romulus United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Archie Leonard Booth and Robert Aree Booth; her sisters, Lavada Strickland and Glynnie Simmons; and her parents, David Rush Booth and Effie Brittain Booth.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Hayes of Tuscaloosa; her sons, Larry Hayes (Robin) of Gordo and Dennis Hayes (Debbie) of Tuscaloosa; her sisters, Opal Acker of Tuscaloosa and Lera Nicosia of Tuscaloosa; and her grandchildren, Lauren Hayes, Stephanie Hayes, Danielle Hayes, and Samantha Hayes, all of Tuscaloosa.

She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother. She kept many foster children in her early years.

Pallbearers will be Gene Booth, Ralph Booth, Ted Acker, Wade Gilliam, Bobby Booth, and Gary Nicosia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Romulus United Methodist Church.
