Maurine Bolton Price will be laid to rest at a private service Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Skinner officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Calame, Clay Cook, John David Calame, Hugh Cook, Clay White and Keith Stokes.
Maurine was born a blond haired, blue eyed baby to Milton Fillmore and Pearlie Bolton in Wiley, Alabama on December 9, 1930. She was adored by her big brother, James Millard Bolton, twin sisters Sadie Bolton Leonard and Katie Bolton Crawford and baby brother William Belton Bolton who all preceded her in death.
At the young age of 17, she fell in love with Wyatt Sidney Price, who proposed to her on the top of a fire tower, literally threatening to jump off if she declined. They were happily married forty nine years when she lost him by her side.
After marriage, she worked as a model and photograph editor at Robyn Lee Studios, where she worked with her best friend and golf cart co-pilot Jean Robertson (Edward “Big Ed” Robertson). Her platinum blonde hair and fashionable style made her the subject of many portraits by Mr. Pogue in the 60’s.
Maurine has two very loved children, William Sidney Price, (Brenda Campbell Price ) and Laurine Price Hughes (David Anthony Hughes) who she raised in the West End neighborhood of Tuscaloosa and later in one of the first houses built on Northwood Lake. She and Sid enjoyed Tuscaloosa County and Alabama Football Games, Dances at the Northport Community Center, playing Rook with friends, campaigning for Big Ed and spending time entertaining their grandchildren.
Maurine loved the water, whether it be relaxing at Panama City Beach, fishing, skiing and boating on The Warrior River or doing laps in a life vest, never wetting her hair in her swimming pool. She was a firm believer that everyone looks better with a tan and Catalina Brand bathing suits were the only brand to buy.
She worked side by side with Sid at his business, Northport Radiator, for close to 30 years, as his secretary, partner, and City Cafe or Archibald's delivery woman. Her employment for Sid financed her Saturday trips to Faucett’s, Parisian and Gayfers Department Stores.
Maurine took pride in her three granddaughters, Christi Price (Angie),of Northport, Alabama, Natalie Cook of Huntsville Alabama, and Amy Calame (Matt) of Decatur, Alabama, teaching them lifelong lessons of how Ivory Soap and Merle Norman Cold Cream are the premiere skin care products, how to stylishly wear leopard print on any piece of clothing, that a little lipstick, especially tiny Avon Samples, can make everybody look and feel better and to always carry Juicy Fruit gum in your well-made pocketbook because no one appreciates a cheap purse. Maurine had a heart of gold, consistently helping out people that had fallen on tough times countered by a sharp tongue that meant business. She loved to cook for others, her specialties being Cat Head Biscuits with Tomato Gravy and Spaghetti from scratch.
Maurine was also blessed with great-grandchildren Lauren Nicole Calame, John David Calame, Clayborn Hughes Cook and Amelia Belle Cook, who are, in her opinion, the most beautiful children to walk this Earth and Lou Moody, her niece, that always held a special place in her heart.
