Morris was born to Stewart and Hattie Acker June 29, 1937. He was surrounded by loving brothers and one cherished sister. He later married the former Beatrice Rice and was blessed with two sons, Steve and Stan. Morris and Bea were married for 55 years. He founded Acker Appliance in 1968.
He was a businessman, but more importantly, he was an active father. He coached Little League baseball, taught Sunday School, and carried the chains for TCHS football for over 30 years. He served as a Deacon for Northwood Hills Baptist Church and served on numerous civic boards. Morris served on the Northport Zoning Board of Adjustments, the Board of Directors for the Northport Chamber of Commerce, SouthTrust Bank Board of Directors, and 12 years on the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education.
His life was fulfilled when he was blessed with four beautiful granddaughters and three great-granddaughters. He was called “friend” by many, and he will be missed by all. Our assurance is in knowing that he is forever with our Lord and Savior. We look forward to seeing him again one day.
The family would like to extend thanks to our many friends and family who have provided so much comfort during this difficult time.
Pallbearers will be Don Williams, Glen Strickland, Jim Mills, Johnny Mills, Randy Lambert, and Jamie Redd.
Honorary pallbearers are Art and Eulene Nuckols, Kay Hubbert, Yusaf Hassan, past and present employees of Acker Appliance, and friends of Northwood Hills Baptist Church and Carrolls Creek Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Northwood Hills Baptist Church Building Fund.
