Robert "Bob" L. Dare, age 75, of Northport, died Thursday, Aug, 12, 2010, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Lake and Rev. Scott McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Berniece Dare; nephew, Frederick Dare, Jr.; brother, Harold "Charley" K. Dare; and daughter-in-law, Dr. Sheila Nichols Dare.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Nancy C. Henry Dare; daughters, Julianne Shanks (Patrick) and Carolyn "Carrie" Blevins (Marvin); son, Charles Dare (Sheila – Deceased); grandchildren, Hollie Camatti (Aaron), Melinda Clayton (Joshua), Amanda McPhillips (Tim), Anna Bailey, Riley Blevins, Tyler Kelbert, Gregory Dare, Brandon Dare, Cody Simpson and Kaillyn Dare; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. Frederick Dare (Nancy); sisters, Rita Riberger (Jim) and Ruth Ann Frost and her companion Dale Howard; and sister-in-law, Charmaign Dare.
His love and devotion to God and his family values was the example of his parents. He was born November 4, 1934 in Kokomo, Ind. and graduated from Kitchel High School in 1953. He attended Butler University on a football and basketball scholarship and then served five years in the U.S. Army. Since that time he has sold insurance and real estate, 48 years in Illinois, Colorado and Alabama. He retired a few years ago and moved to Northport, Ala. While in Illinois, he was a founder and charter member of Central Illinois Board of Realtors and past president, he was a member of the National Realtors Political Action Committee, he built Taylorville Care Center, he was president of Taylorville, Illinois Chamber of Commerce, president of the Christian County Fair and founder of the Taylorville, Illinois Jr. Football league and was inducted into the Taylorville Sports Hall of Fame.
Pallbearers will be Andy Frost, Abe Dare, Connor Camatti, Brandon Dare, Joshua Clayton, Christopher Dare, Aaron Camatti, Riley Blevins, Gregory Dare, Mason Clayton, Titan McPhillips, Myles Clayton and Tyler Kelbert.
Honorary pallbearers are Tom and Carolyn Moates, Truitt and Kathey Chambers, Don and Jan DePina, DCH Home Health Care, Amy, Lucille and Alisha, members of the Lakewood Baptist Church and members of the Seniors Sunday School Class (Mrs. Jessie Terry), Dr. Anand Pandy, Dr. Margaret Morr, First Floor DCH ACCU nurses.
